The objective is to build a dominoes set, which is comprised of a specific number of tiles. Here are a few basic rules to play dominoes. You can learn more about the game by reading this article.
Xuan He Pai Pu is the earliest known manual written about dominoes
The game of dominoes dates back to ancient China. In fact, the earliest known manual written about dominoes dates back to the year 1112 and is believed to be written by Qu You, who lived from 1119 to 1125. Later, in the early 15th century, Xie Zhaozhe describes the game and mentions that it was invented during this period. However, this does not necessarily mean that dominoes were invented in this period.
Sets of dominoes are made of 28 tiles
A domino set is a group of gaming pieces. Depending on the style of game, dominoes can have anywhere from 28 to 190 pieces. A typical European domino set contains 28 tiles and can feature a maximum of six tiles per side. The tiles are made of stiff materials and have spots with counts ranging from zero to six. When playing dominoes, players must avoid getting too carried away by the different patterns and moves.
They are shuffled facedown on the table
Generally, dominoes are shuffled before the game begins. The tiles are placed facedown on the table and moved around in a random fashion without turning them over. These shuffled tiles are called the “boneyard”.
They are played in pairs or fours
There are two basic variations of the game of dominoes: block game and draw game. In block game, a player cannot play a tile until he or she draws one and plays it, but in draw game, the player can only play one tile. In draw game, the player can draw two tiles until he or she can play one. In pair game, a player can play two tiles.
They are scored by awarding the number of pips on opposing player’s tiles to the winner
In a typical game of dominoes, the winner is the player who has the fewest number of pips on the opponent’s tiles. The other player scores points by subtracting the number of pips on their tiles from their own. Often, the game is played with a metal pin, sometimes referred to as a spinner or pivot.
