
The Sidney Myer Performing Arts Awards recognises the contributions of artists in the field of theatre, dance and music. These artists are not only recognised for their past achievements but also have a great potential to continue their contribution into the future. The awards are presented each year at the Sydney Opera House, Australia.
This prize, first awarded in 2012, honours the memory of 19th century Southern poet Sidney Lanier. The award is given by Mercer University’s Spencer B. King Jr Center for Southern Studies to writers who have engaged and extended the long, often complicated tradition of writing about the South.
In a new home, a couple learn to live with ghosts, in Annie Zhang’s winning entry for the 2023 Neilma Sidney Short Story Prize. The judges, Patrick Lenton, Alice Bishop and Sara Saleh, have chosen a winner from the shortlist of eight announced earlier this month, along with two runners-up. The winning story, ‘Who Rattles the Night?’, will appear in Overland’s autumn issue.

In the fall of 2024, The Association of Jewish Libraries will present its 2025 Sydney Taylor Book Award to children’s and young adult titles that exemplify high literary standards while authentically portraying the Jewish experience. The winning titles take familiar topics and explore them in fresh ways that are meaningful to readers.
The Program on Law and Society in the Muslim World at Harvard Law School will award up to two prizes annually to Harvard Law students for outstanding papers written in the field of law and society or law and social change in a Muslim majority or minority context. Papers may be written as part of a course, seminar, clinic, graduate degree project or independent study.
Overland has announced the winners of this year’s Neilma Sidney Short Story Prize. Annie Zhang has won the prize for her story ‘Who Rattles the Night?’, and two runners-up have been named: Madeleine Rebbechi for her story ‘A Map of Underneath’ and Sheila Ngoc Pham for her story ‘Whack a Mole’. Annie Zhang is a writer and editor living on unceded Wangal land. Her stories have been published in Island, Kill Your Darlings and the Western Sydney Emerging Writer Fellows anthology. She is a 2024 Malcolm Robertson Foundation Overland Neilma Sidney Scholar. The judges would like to thank the authors for their entries and their commitment to the integrity of the blind judging process.
